Everywhere you look, someone gives you an opinion. Especially when you're dieting...
Sometimes you just want to say SHUT UP!
Rule out the madness.
Stop the preaching.
I just want to lose weight!
It's nice that people are willing to help. Lets look at things this way but when it gets to be too much, let them know.
It's YOUR diet. It's YOUR life. Don't let it become THEIR diet. You're the one that has to stick with it.
It's a simple concept, speak your mind politely. Whenever someone asks for help, that's when they want to hear an opinion or an idea, right?
CORRECT!
I recently had to ask a friend to stop all the madness. It got to be too much. There's nothing wrong with saying "I appreciate your willingness to help but I don't need advice right now. I need a friend and support. I'll ask you for ideas but lets just pretend I'm not on a diet unless I ask for an idea." She appreciated the honesty even though it hurt. It helped me too because I was no longer bombarded with suggestions that reminded me of what I'm doing wrong.
Face it friends, no one is perfect. What works for you, may not work for someone else. It may actually hinder your friendship and your diet.
This week, I challenge you! If you have someone that is affecting your weight or your diet, look them in the face and tell them the truth. It is better for you and your friendship.
Good Luck and Happy Losing!

Sometimes You Need a Swift Kick
Greetings friends! The Fat Nutritionist NC has been hard at work at hardly working. Unfortunately, I've fallen victim to the slump...you know, the one where you don't focus on things as much as you should?
Like many weight losers, I sometimes fall off the wagon. I say things like "well I'll start tomorrow" or "eh, this is my last unhealthy meal." But tomorrow never comes... Sometimes you need a harsh reality to shake you and say "IT'S TIME TO START TODAY."
Insert most heinous fat picture (which I'm not actually inserting yet because I'm still too embarrassed to show you)
When I was in college, my roommate would say "Don't talk about it, be about it!" If I kept complaining about being fat, that didn't change being fat. If I kept talking about starting the next day, that wasn't actually starting. I'm here to say "I'm fat and I'm doing something about it!"
Recently, I asked my current roommate for help. She went through weight loss with me before. She saw me at my strongest and she's now seeing me at my weakest. But she's being as great of a support as one can have... I currently need someone to hold my bike as I start the ride. When I'm ready, she'll release me to peddle away.
When I asked Roomie to help me, she said "Well you want to start today right?" and I said "well...maybe after vacation. It's hard to diet on vacation..." and she instantly responded about how if I wanted to do it today, I needed to do it today. Don't talk about it, be about it. We started that day.
If you are having a doubt in your mind about your current habits, today is the day! It's time to reevaluate what you like and don't like about your lifestyle and begin the changes. If you saw your reflection and didn't like what you see, take a picture and make it your before! Don't delay because it could result in more to lose or more to change.
Also, don't be afraid to ask for help. I'm a friggin nutritionist and I need help too. Weight Loss is never easy.
Just remember: "Being thin is hard. Being fat is hard. Pick your hard."
